Payson nestles below the Mogollon Rim at an elevation of about 5,000 feet, nicely situated between cooler mountain climes to the north and rugged desert to the south. The Mogollon Rim is a 200 mile escarpment with elevations up to 7,500 feet, that joins the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff in north central Arizona with the White Mountains in eastern Arizona. The largest Ponderosa Pine Forest in the United States runs the length of this high country which is dotted with streams, lakes, trails, campgrounds, wildlife and other recreational opportunities. Head 30 miles South of Payson and you are in the heart of the central deserts or enjoying Roosevelt Lake. Payson serves as a cool summer retreat for vacationers from the Phoenix area and retirees seeking four seasons in a mild climate.
Payson sits in the world’s largest Ponderosa Pine forest comprised of three National Forests. Coconino and Sitgreaves National Forests incorporate the higher elevation mountains and forests. Tonto National Forest incorporates forest and the lower elevation deserts and the Verde and Salt River reservoir systems. Contact us for more information. |
