SR 87 Payson Street Improvements Begin August 10th 
The
Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is beginning street improvements along SR 87 in Payson starting August 10, 2025, with sidewalk, driveway and ramp work. Repaving SR 87 will not begin until spring 2026. The project is expected to be complete in late 2026.
Project Area:
State Route 87 between Green Valley Parkway and Crackerjack Road in Payson (mileposts 251-256)
Project Elements:
• Remove and replace the existing top layer of pavement.
• Construct Americans with Disabilities Act complaint sidewalk ramps.
• Reconstruct turnouts and driveways, as needed.
• Construct and/or reconstruct stormwater improvements.
• Install and/or reconstruct traffic signals, as needed.
• Remove and construct new handrail, as needed.
• Adjust and/or relocate utilities, as needed.
• Trim and/or remove vegetation.
• Restore and/or construct landscaping, as needed.
• Address erosion control, as needed.
What to Expect:
All work requiring lane restrictions will be conducted overnight. Lane restrictions will be in place from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday nights through Friday mornings. No work is anticipated on weekends or holidays.
In the event a lane restriction is required during the day, a traffic alert will be issued notifying the public of the upcoming restriction.
Throughout the paving work, a minimum of one lane in each direction will be maintained. ADOT advises drivers to plan for possible delays while the work is underway.
